Dear Friends!

It is with great enthusiasm that we send SUCEDE's first Newsletter. Our organization is about to end its first year of operations, raising more than US$ 60,000 in funds to promote social development in Latin America.

We would like to share with you our mission of promoting social change and encourage you to participate in achieving it. SUCEDE raises funds for social projects that can have a great impact in the lives of poor and disadvantaged communities in Latin America. There are many ways you can participate in SUCEDE!.

In this issue, we are featuring and promoting two worthy social projects in Perú: “The Interactive Educational Bus”, an innovative initiative to improve early childhood education for urban marginalized children in Lima; and “The Children Rainforest”, an environmental education program that teaches indigenous children the value of both protecting and conserving natural resources.

“ THE INTERACTIVE EDUCATIONAL BUS ”

“The Interactive Educational Bus” project will benefit 5,000 children and their communities in urban shantytowns in the city of Lima, offering children the access to comprehensive learning opportunities. The program will train teachers from 250 community centers or WAWAWASIS (where working mothers leave their children) in early intervention methodologies and individual case management. This project will also promote a greater involvement of the parents in their children's development in these first and crucial years of their lives (3-5 years old).

Thanks to the support of Western Union and AVINA Foundation, this project will start its implementation in December 2004. However, US$10,000 are still needed in order to provide each of the 250 community centers or WAWAWASIS with the educational materials. Please, support this project by becoming a sponsor of one or more WAWAWASI.

A contribution of US$20
will allow us to put together a box with the educational materials needed for one WAWAWASI and name you the sponsor of that center. The box will feature your name and the children will send you a thank you letter or drawing. Feel free to help with as many boxes as you would like, the project needs 250 boxes!

“THE CHILDREN RAINFOREST”

We are also proud that “The Children Rainforest” (BoNi), one of the projects we support, has been featured by National Geographic Kids in its November-December 2004 edition.

BoNi is a project that promotes children's participation in the conservation of nature through a hands-on-experience methodology. BoNi is a parcel of land (1- 100 acres) donated by community members in the Amazon Jungle to strengthen the knowledge and skills of children through the management and sustainable use of natural resources. In these healthy and secure environments the children are also encouraged to strengthen their learning, reading and social skills and participate in environmentally friendly activities.

You can contribute to our effort by promoting the social projects that SUCEDE supports among your friends, co-workers, and people you know can support us. We are currently trying to raise funds for 15 worthy projects that work in social areas such as education, health, gender, environment, small business development, etc.
