Better Education opportunities for children in Villa El Salvador, Lima, Perú.

Project beneficiaries:

Children and their families living in the “Oasis” sector of the urban marginalized community of Villa El Salvador. 
The population served includes families of very low income, which have migrated from the highlands (Andes region) of Perú in search of better living opportunities. The number of direct beneficiaries of this project will increase annually in line with the gradual growth of the School.  The School provides education for 130 children between the ages of 4 and 7 years. Once the School construction is finalized, it will provide education for about 400 students.

 
Project goals and expected impact:

Buena Esperanza strongly believes that education is of fundamental importance in fighting poverty. As such, the main objective is to gradually build a School for the education of children of low-income families. 
Our goal is to provide these children with a solid personal, social and academic foundation. To this end, Buena Esperanza employs its innovative, personalized teaching methodologies to enable children broaden and develop their abilities as well as to provide them with skills to manage challenges and problem solving capabilities. This will enable them to become productive members of society and improve their quality of lives.

In order to successfully educate children, basic needs such as a health and nutrition must be covered as undernourished or sick children face grater difficulties in learning. The Buena Esperanza School provides a daily balanced diet by offering children breakfast, lunch and snacks. Buena Esperanza also has a health promotion program, which consists services such as: periodic weight and height controls, haemoglobin analysis, ophthalmologic tests, oral health and hygiene campaigns.
